Supernatural TV Show

Something cool is happening in our neighborhood! They are filming an episode of the TV show “Supernatural” in the very place we have been walking our dogs at several times a week. The abandoned Airforce barracks is currently one big tv set. While we were walking there a couple days ago, they were putting up a couple small buildings/props. Of course I had Brent take some photos! We didn’t know what they were planning to film there but I was dying to find out so I asked one of the security guards and she told me. How cool!!! This area is usually bare - nothing is there but some old streets that are only used by people walking their dogs. They built a small Cafe and what looks like an old inn that is almost burnt down. They also brought in a scorched motorhome and they put up a street lamp and a stop sign. They were actually filming today as we went to go for a walk but the place was packed with people and cars and we weren’t able to go in for our walk. Too bad, I would have loved to see them filming! I’ve only seen the show a couple times but now I’m going to start watching it - apparently they do a lot of filming in this area - and they film the show Smallville around here too. So cool!!! (I don’t watch that show either, but maybe I should)

First Canvas

Well, here is my first attempt at a canvas - it did not turn out like I anticipated but I am working on a second one that will hopefully turn out a lot better! These canvas transfer kits are really cool though - the instructions are easy to follow and everything you need comes in the kit. www.tilanofresco.com

Here is a little exploding accordion book I made a couple weeks ago - it was finicky to make so I won’t be rushing to make any more of these anytime soon.

Dogs in Motion! A cute pic of Angus and Zoey on our walk to the “barracks” the other day. They found an enormous puddle/ mini lake - that they had to run through.

Unexpected Beauty

Another busy busy week has just flown by in a blink! A few days ago we took the dogs for a walk to this new place we were told about - its a huge lot of vacant land that used to be where the Airforce barracks were. It’s so cool! There aren’t buildings left but there are a couple foundations, and we found the remains of an old fountain. It is the home of many bald eagles and owls (apparently but we haven’t seen any owls yet).

The piggies have been named! Finally - it was tough cause we just could not find a name to fit ‘Cousin It”, we tried a whole bunch of the suggestions that were posted, but nothing stuck. Until today when we were cleaning their cages - Brent said to him “hey Stanley Park guy…” and I was like “that’s it!! That’s his name - STANLEY!!” Lol!!

Yeah that poor little piggie was let loose in Vancouver’s Stanley Park - left to fend for himself. Luckily someone found him and turned him in to the rescue org. 2 of our other pigs were also abandoned - “Sam” was left alone in a small dirty cage in an apartment after someone moved out. They just left him behind. How awful!!! His fur was really long and terribly matted apparently too. “Copernicus” was also abandoned but I’m not sure where. How sad that there are actually people who treat animals like this. So I think we are going to keep all 4 - we talked about it tonight and we really don’t know how we can not keep all of them. We refer to them as the “Quadpiglets”…instead of quadruplets…LOL

So here are their new names - and thank you so much everyone for submitting name ideas for us - there were so many great names!!

Cousin It is now Stanley

Copernicus is now Wheezy (he sneezed a lot during the first few days we had him)

Cornelius is now Tweak

Sam I Am is now Fro (cause he looks like he has an afro)

Nicole W is the winner for suggesting Tweak and Fro - I will send you out some goodies Nicole! :)

What did we get ourselves into?…… and a contest below!

Keep reading for details on the contest…

We did something a little crazy last night. For the last month we have been in the process of adopting a pair of guinea pigs. After our bunny died last summer we have had his big cage sitting empty and I used to have many guinea pigs when I was younger and thought it would be fun to adopt a couple from a rescue organization. We got in touch with this one called Small Animal Rescue Society of BC - we filled out an application, had a home visit and everything. So last night we got to go visit some guinea pigs at the foster home they were at. There were 4 males there and they were all so cute!! We held each of them but we couldn’t decide which two we wanted to bring home. So…. we did what any animal loving crazy person would do… we brought ALL four home!!! I know, just what are we thinking??? The lady who was fostering them even gave us another huge cage and she said that if it doesn’t work out she will gladly take them back. She also said we can keep them all or just keep 2 and “foster” the other two.

So our family has just about doubled in size in the matter of a few minutes. We brought them home and let them all run around the kitchen together while we sat with them trying to get them used to us. Then we brought the cat in to meet them and then the dogs one at a time. Soon we ALL were in the kitchen and everyone was getting along. Amazing. Guinea pigs were running underneath of the dogs, sniffing nose to nose with the cat, munching on orange slices and lettuce. CHAOS. Lol, but it was fun.

So the dilemma….. (besides the fact that we now have FOUR guinea pigs!!!) - is that we don’t like the names that came with them and we are having trouble finding names that suit them.

They came with these names: Cousin It (the really big long haired one), Sam I Am (the one that looks like he has an Afro), Copernicus (the fuzzy white and peach one) and Cornelius (the black fuzzy one).

So…. here’s the contest - Help us name the piggies!!!! If we choose a name that you suggest to us, I will send you a little package of goodies :)

Here are their pictures - they sure are cute

Some photos I took around the house yesterday.

I added a photo page into my blog where I will occasionally be posting photos that I’ve taken. I’m slowly learning how to use the 20D and its many lenses.
